Good Dog

“Top Tips for Good Dogs”

  1. Get your dog walking community on board first
Choose a couple of hot dog walking routes and ask people if they would be interested in buying a tag for their dog to let people know they are not leaving dog mess behind. Early evening is best.
    Frequently asked questions
    • How much?- As an estimate, the price would be about £4.
    • What does the tag look like?
    • We have gone for metal, green heart shaped tags What does it say? Ours is engraved with “I HAVE A RESPONSIBLE OWNER”
    • Can I pay later? We collected names (owners, pets, addresses and phone numbers) first until we had 50.
  2. Find a reliable supplier for the tags
We use Timpsons which is a national chain, and discussed a price for bulk purchases, and follow up orders. We settled on an initial purchase of 50 tags and minimum follow up orders of 10 discs
  3. Agree on a selling price
We charge £4 which includes an extra £1 donation to Hunmanby in Bloom. People were happy to pay an extra £1 to support our planting efforts.
  4. SHOUT, SHOUT AND SHOUT AGAIN!
Get the local press involved. Let people know what you are planning to do, have regular updates for the papers and photos definitely help. Write your own articles and send them in – you are more likely to get coverage
  5. Sell the tags in local shops
Once the campaign gets going ask local shops to sell the tags and support with posters in shop winders. Once this is set up you can use the money to pay for new orders (and support your in bloom work if you do as we did)
  6. Keep it fresh
Keep momentum going to encourage new people to join your campaign. Press articles, posters, local forums etc are good. We are just about to do something for non dog owners – visit the web site in future for an update.
