Welcome.
Hunmanby is situated on the fringes of the Yorkshire Wolds and looks across two miles of gently falling ground to Filey Bay. Mentioned in the Doomsday book as the “Homestead of the Huntsman”, and with roots back to the time of William the Conqueror, Hunmanby was once an important centre of power and influence. The Osbaldison family were a significant force for several generations, and the original land rights of the Manor (now Hunmanby Hall) extended to the shoreline until 1935 when the town of Filey was given administrative rights over the land. Today our village is a thriving community with an award winning primary school and locally run businesses.
The In Bloom volunteers come from all areas of the community, formed in late 2004, our aim is to make our village attractive for those who live, work and visit the area, whilst improving our local environment. To date our volunteers have given over 7,000 hours of service to the village and the results are much appreciated by residents and visitors alike who often stop us as we are working and comment on how well the area is looking.
Over the years we have developed several areas of the village – you will see our work at Cross Hill, the railway station, sponsored barrels and flower beds in the village. All of these are planted and maintained by the group with the support of local residents, groups, businesses, Hunmanby Parish Council and Scarborough Council.
As you will see from the awards below our work continues to receive recognition outside the village – but essentially our goals are to support our community and the environment for everyone.
